The hardest hit area was in Stony Brook, where flooding destroyed the Mill Pond dam and bridge.
Extreme flooding brought by an overnight storm breached dams, leading to buckled roads near the Stony Brook, Smithtown border.
Now, one year later, the nightmare still isn't over for some and Harbor Road still isn't fixed, which is a main thoroughfare for the Smithtown Village Head of the Harbor.
"Any resident who lives in the eastern half of our village is under the threat of delayed services," Head of the Harbor Mayor Michael Utevsky said.
Mayor Utevsky says the emergency response time is delayed by 5 to 7 minutes, which is a concern for neighboring resident Beth Zwag.
"It's really shocking that nothing has happened in terms of fixing it," she said.
Who is responsible for fixing it?
The town of Brookhaven owns the road, which can't be fixed until the dam is fixed.
Brookhaven town supervisor Dan Panico says the nonprofit Ward Melville Heritage Organization owns the dam.
The President, Gloria Rocchio of the organization, was at the office when Eyewitness News tried to ask questions but did not come out of her office to speak.
The estimated cost of rebuilding the dam is at least $5 million.
A once two-century-old pristine grist mill pond was reduced to muddy rubble and greenery now grows in its place.
It would've been an eyesore for homeowner Ron Borgese, who instead lost a third of his house in the storm. His house has been condemned ever since.
"Nobody has offered any resources to us and its been a difficult year. We had all the intentions of making our life here until that storm happened. There's been no way to recover because no one has done a thing," Borgese said.
The Stony Brook husband and father of two says his homeowners' insurance bailed and multiple government agencies are passing the buck and he's now out of options.
Head of the Harbor is also losing its patience.
"Our village not being able to take responsibility has really only one option and that is to start a lawsuit and we intend to do that imminently," Mayor Utevsky said.
