Original Joe's restaurant opens new location in Walnut Creek

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (KGO) -- The famous Original Joe's restaurant is now in the East Bay.

Thursday was the grand opening of the new Walnut Creek location. It's in the heart of downtown, in the Broadway Plaza Shopping Center.

Locals are thrilled.

"This is the most exciting thing that's happened in the culinary world for this area in some time," said Rich Eber.

"It's a great feeling to know that this multi-generational business is continuing on," said Bob Young. "It's great, it's great. It's gonna be a plus for the whole neighborhood here."

The Original Joe's sign that's in the bar area is from the first location that opened in San Francisco's Tenderloin in 1937.

You can see the paint is peeling. That's because the restaurant burned down in a fire in 2007.

Original Joe's reopened in North Beach in 2012.
