SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- You'll soon be able to pay for BART the same way you pay for everything else --- by tapping your debit or credit card.
BART is launching a new contactless payment method starting August 20.
The upgraded Clipper 2 system has faced setbacks and delays.

BART will switch over first, but eventually, all transit systems using Clipper cards will be "tap to pay."
So, don't throw away your clipper cards just yet.

If you transfer from BART to other public transit, like Muni, you will still need to use your clipper card.
The Clipper Card is not being phased out. It's being offered as another payment option.
