The Distribution Legal group negotiates and provides legal counsel for the distribution of The Walt Disney Company’s world-class feature films, television content and online direct-to-consumer offerings. We represent Disney’s expansive portfolio of brands from the Walt Disney Studios (including Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Twentieth Century Studios and Searchlight) television entertainment, sports and news (including ABC Entertainment, ESPN, ABC News, Disney Channel/Disney Junior/Disney XD, FX Networks, National Geographic Channel and Freeform), and our innovative direct-to-consumer offerings (including Disney+, ESPN+, and ABC News Live). The role is for the legal team supporting Disney Platform Distribution.

This team is the legal hub for Disney content distribution on a global scale, including theatrical distribution, airline distribution, distribution of Disney’s linear networks, distribution of Disney’s direct-to-consumer “apps”, and distribution of Disney’s world class library of video and audio content via third-party services including streaming and on-demand video, as well as podcasting/Internet radio services. The group also advises business executives on distribution technology matters, related legal and policy matters, and handles content protection. 

About the Role & Team:

The individual in this position will provide contract administration (including drafting, review, analysis, & management) of a variety of distribution agreement types, including airline distribution agreements, direct-to-consumer application agreements, podcasting and radio agreements, and linear distribution agreements with MVPDs/DMVPDs.  The work will also include support for distribution technology and content protection. 

A successful candidate will support and interface with lawyers, business & cross-functional teams throughout The Walt Disney Company, both domestically and globally, to ensure consistency among the company’s various agreements. 

What You Will Do:

  • Responsible for drafting, reviewing, analyzing and advising on contracts, schedules, amendments, and other distribution matters
  • Provide paralegal support for seven Disney attorneys
  • Collaborate with internal and external legal partners throughout the contract administration process
  • Conduct general research and provide written and oral communication regarding findings
  • Organize, prepare manage online document libraries for assigned legal documents, agreements and amendments
  • Assist attorneys with analysis and implementation of process improvement to ensure consistency in the department, while meeting the needs of each negotiation

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • 2-3 years’ experience as paralegal
  • Conversant in network and content distribution models
  • Strong contract drafting/analytic skills
  • Strong relationship-building and client service skills
  • Highly detailed oriented
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Solutions oriented with ability to problem solve to appropriately meet clients’ needs
  • Able to effectively issue spot and assess risk
  • Able to work in fast-paced environment

Education

  • Paralegal certification, or equivalent relevant legal experience
  • BA/BS degree, or commensurate professional experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct content distribution experience

The hiring range for this position in Burbank, CA is $71,000.00 to $95,100.00 per year based on a 40 hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
