Job Summary:

This position will be responsible for supporting the Safety Compliance team of Disney Cruise Line, assisting the Manager of Safety in compliance of the Disney Cruise Line® Safety Management System, Disney Corporate Safety Standards (as applicable) and all relevant International, National, Flag State and Local Regulations while continually seeking opportunities for technical safety improvement.

This position will help foster a strong safety culture by positive and proactive collaboration with all operational departments including the identification, assessment, analysis, and solving of a broad spectrum of Marine and Technical safety opportunities across the Disney Cruise Line Fleet and Islands.

Areas of proficiency and knowledge will include but are not limited to: Engineering or Electrical Maintenance, Technical Operational Management skills of large complex Cruise ships.

Areas to include: propulsion systems, auxiliary generators, deck machinery, high voltage electrical installations, air conditioning, steering gear systems, fuel systems, including LNG Fuel systems; electronic Marine Control Systems, SOLAS Safe Return to Port systems, Fixed Firefighting Appliances and Life Saving Appliances, MARPOL pollution prevention equipment and technical damage stability knowledge.

This position is Florida-based based however, you may be required to travel internationally 25% to 30% of the time.

You Will:

  • Ability to conduct audits and work effectively in partnership with other team members. Maintain trustworthy and effective business relationships with your Team and all levels of leadership and Cast and Crew.

  • Develop critical listening skills when conducting Safety Management System (SMS) audits and assess performance against relevant standards. Provide observations or non-conformities to the lead auditor for potential inclusion in internal ISM / SMS audit reports.

  • ISM Code Auditor: Enter completed audit reports into the corporate tracking system DCLIMS for action and evaluating effectiveness of corrective and preventative actions to closure. Work with operational partners to follow through on corrective actions to closure.

  • Prepare for audits and continually improve and modify technical Safety Management System audit scopes for areas identified during both internal and external audits as areas for improvement.

  • Exercise your technical knowledge to help develop recommendations for safety improvements in close collaboration with technical operations.

  • Assist in the producing Safety messaging and Safety Alerts, as directed.

  • Assist in Root Cause analysis of incidents.

  • Collaborate with Marine and Technical Operations to discuss occupational injuries, potential mitigations and preventative actions.

  • Participate in Shore Safety Committee and prepare presentations of safety-related issues for sharing with committee members and other safety professionals.

  • Participate in Environmental Shore Committee meetings.

  • Work closely with Marine and Technical Operations team to assist in reviewing action plans for outstanding Condition of Class, audit non-conformities / observations and CIRs (Continuous Improvement Reports) monthly to verify items are addressed through leadership intervention and corrective action implementation.

  • Responsible to liaise and collaborate with Marine and Technical Operations on improving all Safety Management System Safety, Marine and technical content, including risk assessments.

  • Maintain or acquire sufficient knowledge of all maritime regulations.

  • As requested by leadership, assist in investigations and as applicable Privileged and Confidential legal incident investigations and report writing.

  • Ability to handle confidential information

You Will Have:

  • A Technical Marine education with 5+ years of seagoing experience onboard large Cruise ships.

  • Experience with strategic listening, prioritization, and initiation of tasks

  • An experienced communicator to all levels of organizations with clear analytical editing skills, able to present formally if required.

  • Ability to understand complex marine and technical systems

  • Ability to build and maintain effective business relationships

  • Ability to travel and possess a valid passport

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills demonstrated expertise in conflict resolution and de-escalation of difficult situations.

  • ISM Code Lead Auditor or Completion of an accredited ISO 9001 lead auditor training course.

  • Proficient in Classification Society Rules, ISM, SOLAS, MLC, ISPS, MARPOL, STCW, ILO, IGF Code, flag requirements and Port State Control regulations.

  • Experienced in the United States Coast Guard (Cruise ship national center of expertise) foreign passenger ship examiner training.

  • United States Public Health Vessel Sanitation Program for Cruise industry personal.

Preferred Education:

  • Qualified STCW Engineering Unlimited 2ND Engineer or above or STCW Electrical Officer

  • Qualified STCW Deck Unlimited Officer Of The Watch large passenger ships

  • Experienced Environmental Officer on large passenger ships

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
