Hacked political materials

Google Ads values diversity and respect for others and strives to avoid offending users, so ads and destinations that display shocking content or promote hatred, intolerance, discrimination, or violence aren’t allowed. Learn more about the Inappropriate content policy.

Violations of this policy will not lead to immediate account suspension without prior warning. A warning will be issued at least 7 days prior to any suspension of your account. Learn more about suspended accounts.

The following is not allowed:

Not supported Ads that directly facilitate or advertise access to hacked material related to political entities within scope of Google's Election Ads policies. This applies to all protected material obtained through the unauthorized intrusion or access of a computer, computer network, or personal electronic device, even if it’s distributed by a third party.

Examples (non-exhaustive):

  • Examples of advertising access to hacked content:
    • “See all of the leaked emails right now!”
    • “The President’s text messages were hacked! Access them now!”
  • Examples of linking to hacked content:
    • “View our database of hacked documents from the President's campaign.”
    • “Foreign agents hacked into his computer, take a look at the real documents.”

Discussion of or commentary on hacked political materials is allowed if the ad or landing page does not provide or facilitate direct access to those materials.


Options to fix

If this policy is affecting your ad, review your options to fix below.

Edit your ads to comply with this policy

  1. Go to Ads within the Campaigns Campaigns Icon menu.
  2. Hover over the ad or asset and select Edit.
  3. Edit the ad or asset so that it complies with the policy.
  4. Select Save

Your ad will be automatically reviewed again. Check the ad’s status in the “Ads & assets” page for updates.

Appeal policy decision

If you believe there’s been an error and that you haven’t violated Google Ads' policies, appeal the policy decision directly from your Google Ads account to request a review. If the review determines that your ads are compliant, they can run again. If you aren't able to fix these violations or choose not to, remove your ad to help prevent your account from becoming suspended in the future for repeated policy violations.
