Leading AI Products at Google

The AI revolution isn't just about new models and algorithms; it's forcing a fundamental reckoning with compute infrastructure. Many leaders are at a crossroads: ➡️ Option A: Consume AI as a service from providers like Google Cloud. For most, this is the smartest, fastest path. ➡️ Option B: Build AI as a core, differentiating competency. If you are on Path B, your existing infrastructure strategy is likely obsolete. It’s not about adding a few GPUs; it's about re-architecting the entire system—from the physical network to the software stack—for unprecedented scale and interconnectivity. For a masterclass on this topic, I highly recommend the latest piece from renowned infrastructure expert, our own Amin Vahdat. He breaks down exactly why and how this shift is happening.

VP and GM, AI and Infrastructure

Scientific and engineering advances often progress at a steady rate punctuated by some discontinuous event that requires new ways of thinking. In the end, we are left with capabilities that were previously thought to be impossible. In computing, the rise of the Internet and planetary-scale software services 25 years ago necessitated a new ‘scale out’ systems architecture, leading to loosely synchronized distributed systems running on commodity hardware serving users from hundreds of data centers across the world. Today, the rise of AI compute, from large-scale pretraining, to reinforcement learning, serving, and agentic workloads, is driving an even more radical rethink of the basic backbone of global compute infrastructure. This shift is bigger and more disruptive than the shift to Internet-scale computing, with resulting capabilities that would have previously been unimaginable. We are still in the early stages of this reinvention, which for me makes it the most exciting time to be working in computing broadly defined. In my article for @VentureBeat Data Decision Makers, I discuss how this effort demands a collective reimagining across research and industry to design a new AI infrastructure for the decades ahead. #AI #Computing #Infrastructure #Technology #Innovation https://lnkd.in/gb8QCJCq
