Maria is a proven government executive passionate about bringing opportunities to our communities.
As Senior Director, Maria oversees the department responsible for outreach, recruitment, and development of Minority, Women, and Locally Based Enterprise (MWLBE) firms and the SCA’s
workforce development programs.
Maria started her career in public service as an environmental scientist for the federal Environmental Protection Agency, then the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection prior to returning to NYC as a drinking water scientist for the NYC Department of Environmental Protection. In 2007, Maria joined the Mayor’s Office of Contract Services implementing sustainable procurement laws in construction contracts and the local law that governs today’s M/WBE Program. She served at the NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) as the Assistant Commissioner overseeing the M/WBE Certification Program. She later joined the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development as the M/WBE Officer but was soon promoted to DYCD’s Deputy Chief Operating Officer overseeing Facilities, Human Resources, and Small Purchases. Most recently, she returned to the Mayor’s Office of Contract Services as the Chief Diversity Officer managing the coordination of the NYC Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (M/WBE) Program through policy development, legislative actions,
outreach activities, and trainings to increase M/WBE participation in procurement.
Maria obtained her Bachelor of Science from Wesleyan University, Master of Science from CW Post Long Island University, Master of Public Administration from Baruch College, and a certificate in Diversity & Inclusion from Cornell University.
