73-year-old woman killed, another injured when car slams into Downey home; DUI suspect arrested
DOWNEY, Calif. (KABC) -- A 73-year-old woman was killed and a 24-year-old woman was rushed to a trauma center early Saturday after a vehicle plowed into a home in Downey, authorities said.
New video shows the terrifying moments when the car plowed straight into the home.
The video shows debris flying as the car slammed into the family home, killing one woman and seriously injuring another.
Surveillance video from neighbors shows the moment a 24-year-old man from Maywood drove straight into the family's home around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
The man was driving eastbound on Gallatin Road when he crashed into the residence, according to the Downey Police Department. The motorist was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, police said. He was not injured, and his name was not released.
Downey Police say a 73-year-old woman was killed and a 24-year-old woman was taken to a trauma center for her injuries after the crash, which happened in the 9500 block of Gallatin Road -- a street that dead-ends into a cul-de-sac.
Video captured early Saturday morning shows the car completely inside the house with debris on top of it. The video shows several emergency responders arriving to help.
The home is now boarded up to cover the large hole that the driver created.
A neighbor shared a video of the driver's car being pulled from the house and then towed away, showing the car's front bumper completely smashed in.
