LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A heat wave has arrived in Southern California, and the temperatures and humidity will continue to climb. Some areas will even see thunderstorms at the end of the week.
Temperatures will continue to climb throughout the week as a dome of high pressure slowly moves west. Temperatures will be the hottest when the dome is directly over our area on Thursday and Friday.
An Extreme Heat Watch is in place for much of the Los Angeles area from Thursday at 11 a.m. through Saturday at 9 p.m.
A Red Flag Warning is in place for the San Fernando Valley and some of our canyon areas through Saturday at 9 p.m.
Los Angeles and Orange counties Thursday are expected to reach a high of 97 degrees, which would break a record. It will still be hot over the weekend, but temperatures are expected to fall a few degrees.
The valleys and Inland Empire Thursday will see sunny skies with a high of 103 degrees and a low of 68. Triple-digit heat is expected to stick around through the weekend. A 20% chance of showers or thunderstorms arrives Saturday for the Inland Empire.
Beaches Thursday can expect morning fog and afternoon sunshine, along with a high of 80 and a low of 68 degrees. Humidity is expected to arrive this weekend as a small chance of showers arrives.
The mountains Thursday will see partly sunny conditions with a high of 86 degrees and a low of 53. Several days of mountain thunderstorms are expected to arrive beginning Friday, with flash flooding possible through Sunday.
Deserts Thursday can expect a high of 107 degrees and a low of 71, with Palm Springs expected to hit 116 degrees. A 30% chance for showers enters the forecast beginning Friday. That rain chance increases during the weekend.
