PASSAIC COUNTY, New Jersey (WABC) -- A boil water advisory has been lifted for residents in some parts of Paterson, New Jersey, allowing them to safely resume normal water usage.
According to the Passaic Valley Water Commission, the advisory has been lifted for about 77,000 customers who live south of Broadway, east of Spruce Street and west of Route 20.
The boil water advisory remains in effect for customers who live outside of this area in Paterson, as well as those in North Haledon and Haledon, the utilities company said.
For customers who have had the advisory lifted, the Passaic Valley Water Commission recommends taking the following steps:
Meanwhile, officials are providing free bottles of water at the corner of North 8th Street and Oxford Street on both Saturday and Sunday between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. for impacted residents. Proof of residency in Haledon, North Haledon, Paterson or Prospect Park is required.
It's been one week since a water main break left residents in Passaic County high and dry.
City leaders and water officials in Paterson said they have recovered water service to all city residents on Thursday evening, but some nearby communities are still without water service.
Officials cautioned that recovered water service is not the same as normal restored water service, which will take longer.
A new order went out in Haledon banning all outdoor water usage for the time being.
Despite progress on repairing the broken main, a boil water advisory will likely continue for another week.
