'Freakier Friday' is in theaters on August 8th.
It's been 22 years since Freaky Friday was a global hit at the box office. Now, Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are reuniting with the original cast for a Freak-quel!
This time, it's a double, four-way swap that's freakier, funnier and even more heartfelt than the first one.
Jamie Lee Curtis says she was the one who made the phone that brought this highly anticipated sequel to the big screen.
"It really comes down to Father Time," Curtis says. "Math! Lindsay had to be old enough to be the mother of a 15-year-old. That's just the truth. There's no way to make the movie if she's not."
When the math was 'mathing,' Curtis got right on the phone with Walt Disney Company's CEO, Bob Iger.
"I called Bob Iger and we talked about it," she says. "I was like: 'I'm telling you, I go around the world and I talk about a lot of movies. The only movie they want to talk to me about is 'Freaky Friday.' So that's why we're here."
Lindsay Lohan says when she got Curtis' call, it was an instant "Yes."
"Well, it's Jamie," Lohan says. "I love Jamie."
Lohan is now a mom on screen, and in real life too.
"Having my son, and being able to draw from being a mother at home and bring that to a character for the first time on screen was a really nice thing to be able to do," Lohan says. "It was really exciting for me."
This time, her character Anna Coleman body swaps with her teenage daughter, Harper.
"Slipping back into the role of Anna felt very comfortable for me because I've also aged with Anna as the character, so it was easy for me to relate to who she is today," Lohan says. "Especially being a mom."
Julia Butters joins the cast as Harper.
"I was absolutely a fan of the original film," Butters says. "I was so excited. I feel like I had such nostalgia from this. I can't imagine the people who have grown up with Anna, and I can't wait for them to see where she is now."
Jamie Lee Curtis' Tess Coleman is now a grandmother. In this double swap, she switches places with a teenage newcomer named Lily, played by Sophia Hammons, who is about to join the family.
"This reaches a whole new level of empathy," Hammons says. "It's the ultimate."
The original cast all came back, including Chad Michael Murray reprising his role as Jake.
"What a weird, crazy thing to come back and do this after so long," Murray says. "What a warm love fest it was."
Mark Harmon also returns as Ryan, and the original members of the band Pink Slip are back too!
"It's a very comforting feeling," Lohan says. "It's almost like you've grown up with them, which everyone kind of has, in a sense. I didn't know if I would see this day, but I'm sure happy that I did."
Manny Jacinto is new to the crew, as Eric, Lohan's on-screen fiancée.
"There's a bunch of cool kids hanging out at the at the cafeteria, and luckily, the cool kids welcomed me in," Jacinto says. "We had a blast!"
Vanessa Bayer is also on board. We'll call her a fortune teller.
"To join this legacy, to be a part of this iconic franchise, is just a dream," she says. "It's unbelievable."
