Man searching for family in box of photos found by garbage in Bronx apartment
RIVERDALE, The Bronx (WABC) -- A man in the Bronx found a box of precious memories with a treasure trove of old photographs -- but they're not his.
If a photo is worth a thousand words, it could be worth an entire story for one family. There are wedding photos from generations ago -- a sweet dairy farm somewhere important enough to frame and lots of children and gatherings.
"Images are so important. We're capturing history with our family photos," said David Handschuh.
Handschuh found the box down by the garbage in his mother's Bronx apartment last weekend. When he took a closer look, the professional photographer realized immediately it was not trash -- it was someone's treasure and he is keeping it safe.
"You cannot throw out memories like this," he added.
Handschuh is now on a quest to find the family represented in the images.
While some photos look like they came from the old country, there are more recent ones at a graduation from University of Michigan in 2011.
Handschuh is hoping an Eyewitness News viewer will recognize the beautiful smiles and claim the memories. He also says he has a message for the person whose family is represented in the box.
"It looks like you had some great times and it looks like you had some wonderful history. And come and pick up your photos," he said.
The frames are dusty, but the images are clear and are in very good condition. Their goal now is to reunite the pictures with the family.
