Residents displaced after NJ Transit bus crashes into storefront in West Orange
Toni Yates reports from West Orange, New Jersey.

WEST ORANGE, New Jersey (WABC) -- A New Jersey Transit bus was involved in a crash in West Orange after the driver apparently lost control and slammed into a storefront on Main Street.

It happened just after 1 a.m. Saturday morning when the bus went into the Oak Tree Nail Salon.

On Monday, several businesses were still picking up the pieces and some residents who live in the apartments above still can't return back to their homes.

The crash caused a lamp post on the sidewalk to go through the floor of one of the apartments, damaging the floor rafters.

As a result, residents living in the two second-floor apartments were displaced and relocated.

A West Orange Construction Code official inspected the site and determined both the commercial businesses and the two upstairs residential units were not safe for occupancy.

The bus driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The cause of the crash was not yet clear.
