1 swimmer dead, 4 rescued after getting caught in rip current at Seaside Heights beach
All five swimmers were all taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where one was pronounced dead.

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, New Jersey (WABC) -- One man is dead and four others are in stable condition after getting caught in a rip current at a Seaside Heights beach in New Jersey on Monday.

Seaside Heights Fire Department received calls for reports of multiple swimmers in distress shortly after 6:30 p.m.

They responded to Webster Avenue Beach, where they deployed two jet skis to rescue the distressed swimmers.

They were all taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where one swimmer was pronounced dead.

The man has not been identified yet.

The other swimmers are in stable condition.

Lifeguards usually leave around 5 p.m. Lifeguards were not on duty during the time of the rescue.

Chief William Rumbolo told Eyewitness News there were at least 10 other people stuck in a rip current over the weekend that needed to be rescued as well.
