NEW YORK (WABC) -- After a month of wild weather in the Tri-State area and around the country, Eyewitness News invites you to join us for a special presentation, "Preparing for Extremes, Your AccuWeather Guide."
Our team of meteorologists will examine the science behind the supercharged storms that have led to deadly flooding and deadly lightning strikes.
We will also look at what cities and towns are doing to mitigate flooding and other life-threatening weather tragedies.
In the Tottenville section, a series of rock structures known as the Living Breakwaters minimize the risk of erosion, and create a rich habitat for local marine life.
At Tobay Beach on Long Island, officials are working to protect both the coastline and the residents from severe weather and storms, using nearly half-a-million-dollar water rescue truck to help prepare for dangerous flooding.
The special will look at the importance of knowing your flood zone as the maps change. We will look at what that means in terms of both risk and insurance.
7 On Your Side Investigates spoke to Tri-State homeowners hit by recent extreme weather who say their insurance providers have either dropped them or are charging them higher rates.
Also, the New Jersey State Police will give us a step-by-step safety demonstration on what to do if you find yourself driving when flash flooding strikes.
For all that and more, make sure to tune in as the Tri-State area prepares for another round of rain and potential flooding.
