Learn how to increase coverage with device protection

You can add Google Fi device protection when you sign up for Google Fi and purchase a Designed for Fi phone for third party, non-Pixel devices only. This protection offers additional coverage beyond your device’s manufacturer’s warranty.

For Google Fi Pixel users, you can find the protection options through Pixel Care+.

Important:

To check your active device protection enrollments and your device protection provider, go to the Google Fi app Fi.

Learn what Google Fi device protection covers

Get accidental damage coverage

Your Google Fi device protection covers up to 2 accidental damage from handling claims in any rolling 12-month period from the first repair or replacement date. Accidental damage includes problems like drops, spills, and cracked screens.

For example, if you file a claim on March 1 and June 1, you can’t file until March 1 of the next year. Coverage begins on device protection enrollment or device ship date, whichever is later.

Get a mechanical breakdown coverage
  • All Designed for Fi phones come with a manufacturer’s warranty that covers mechanical breakdown that occurs through no fault of the owner.
  • After the manufacturer’s warranty expires, Google Fi device protection provides coverage for as long as a device is enrolled.
  • There's no limit to the number of repairs or replacements provided under this coverage.
  • Under manufacturer's warranty, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2XL phones are covered for 2 years. All other phones are covered for one year.

Coverage begins on device protection enrollment or device ship date, whichever is later.

Coverage for loss, theft, or physical damage (not available in NY)

Your Google Fi device protection covers up to 2 loss, theft, or physical damage claims in any rolling 12-month period from the first replacement date. You can find more details in Asurion's Google Fi device protection terms and conditions.

Loss, theft and physical damage coverage isn't available in New York.

Coverage begins on device protection enrollment or device ship date, whichever is later.

Plan ahead in case your phone goes missing and learn how to find your lost or stolen Google Fi phone.

Tip: If your device is shipped before July 14, 2025, your device is covered for up to one loss or theft claim in any one 12-month period. You can find more details in the Google Fi device protection brochure.

How to add Google Fi device protection

To enroll in Google Fi device protection, you must purchase your phone through Google Fi. You can add device protection when you purchase a third party, non-Pixel phone or within 30 days after the phone ships. Coverage begins on the device protection enrollment or device shipment date, whichever is later. You don’t have to enroll in device protection to purchase or finance a device or to sign up for Google Fi wireless service.

As of August 20, 2025, if you purchase a Pixel device, you can’t enroll it in device protection from Google Fi. Pixel devices can enroll in Pixel Care+.

Devices from third party retailers can’t be enrolled into device protection.

How to add device protection at the time of purchase

To enroll in device protection when you purchase a new phone through Google Fi:

  1. Select the device protection option and complete your purchase.
  2. Activate Google Fi service within 30 days of the phone’s shipment.

In your first statement, you’ll find a prorated charge for device protection starting from your phone’s coverage start date (as shown in your coverage documents) to your statement date. There will also be a charge for the next full month of coverage.

If you purchase device protection but don’t activate Google Fi service within 30 days of the phone’s shipment:

  • If you haven't filed a claim, your device protection is automatically canceled and you won’t be charged for it.
  • If you have an approved claim with a device issued during this period, you’ll be charged the deductible for the claim and a prorated amount for the device protection coverage for this period. After this period, you’ll no longer have device protection.
How to add device protection within 30 days of shipment

If you didn't enroll in device protection when you purchased your phone through Google Fi, you can still enroll within 30 days of the day your phone shipped. Here's how:

  1. If you’re new to Google Fi, make sure Google Fi service is activated.
  2. On the Google Fi website, go to Your plan.
  3. Select the device that you would like to enroll.
  4. Under "Device protection," select Enroll. On the next screen, select Enroll again.

In your first statement, you’ll find a prorated charge for device protection starting from your phone’s coverage start date as shown in your coverage documents to your statement date, and a charge for the next full month of coverage.

Manage device protection for a group plan

Your device protection cost and coverage are the same as those for individual plans when you're part of a Google Fi group plan.

Who can manage device protection:

  • Device purchaser: They can enroll the device, file claims, and cancel device protection.
  • Group plan owner: They’re billed for all device protection monthly charges. They can also cancel device protection for any device on their plan.

If you join a group plan:

  • You can keep your existing device protection coverage and you remain the account holder.
  • The group plan owner now becomes responsible for all payments and can cancel your plan.

Active device protection coverage depends on receipt of payments. If a group plan owner doesn’t want to pay for your device protection coverage, they can cancel your coverage, or you can leave the group plan.

If you leave a group plan:

  • If you’re the device protection account holder, you can continue your coverage by joining another group plan or signing up for a new individual plan.
  • Your device protection coverage ends once you leave Google Fi.

If a group owner enrolled a device you currently use, they can continue or cancel that coverage.
