News: 5 days agoJohnson rushed the ball 11 times for 50 yards in Saturday's 17-14 preseason loss to the Buccaneers. He made one reception on one target for nine yards.

Spin: Johnson entered the game after Kenneth Gainwell and played deep into the third quarter, while Jaylen Warren rested. Johnson found running room difficult to come by for much of the contest, though he did rip off gains of 14 and nine yards on the ground. While his usage behind Gainwell suggests there is still plenty of room for Johnson to improve, he did seemingly take a step forward relative to his first preseason contest.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: Johnson was selected by Pittsburgh in the third round of April's draft. He isn't super-fast (4.57 40-yard dash) or quick (1.62 10-yard split), which limited his output at Iowa (only 34% of runs went for 5-plus yards), but he's one of the biggest backs in this class. He's seemingly a capable receiver, but didn't do it much in college (38 targets) and needs work as a pass blocker, so his fantasy ceiling might be a bit limited. That's especially the case with Jaylen Warren positioned to handle about one-third of the carries and most of the passing-down work. The de facto Najee Harris replacement in run-heavy Pittsburgh, Johnson is a flex option who figures to max out as a fringe RB2.
