Payment Methods

Walmart accepts several payment methods such as the following:

  • EBT cards from participating states for the purchase of EBT eligible items
  • Debit cards
  • Credit cards
  • Pay by bank
  • Gift cards (Note: you cannot use a gift card to purchase another gift card)
  • Walmart Balance
  • Health spending account (HSA) / flexible spending account (FSA) cards
  • Benefit cards for the purchase of eligible items (including Healthy Benefits and OTC Network)
  • PayPal

You will see Affirm when you checkout. You can't add it to your Wallet.

Gift Cards

Walmart eGift Cards 

You can send multiple Walmart eGift cards up to five recipients per transaction.  

To send the Walmart eGift cards to multiple recipients, you must: 

  • Purchase the same eGift card amount 
    • Each eGift card purchased on one transaction must have the same amount
  • Use the same payment method 
  • Have the same message  
    • If you want to have a message attached to the eGift card, it must be the same on the rest of the eGift cards purchased

How to Redeem a Gift Card

  1. Open the Walmart app or go to Walmart.com.
  2. Select Account.
  3. Select the Settings gear icon at the top right.
  4. Select Wallet.
  5. Select Add new payment method.
  6. Select Gift Card.
  7. Enter the card number, PIN and optional Gift card nickname.
    • For eGift cards, find the PIN in the confirmation email.
  8. Select Save card.

Check Gift Card Balance

  1. Scratch off the silver coating on the back of the card.
    • This reveals the last four digits of the card and the PIN number.
    • For eGift cards, find the PIN in the confirmation email.
  2. With the 16-digit card number and PIN, check the balance of the card by 1 of 3 ways:

Don’t have a PIN?

To check the balance, you’ll need to exchange the gift card for one with a PIN. You can do this at any Walmart store.

Pay by Bank

You can pay for your purchases using your bank account. Connect your bank account to Walmart by signing into your online banking and conveniently pay at Checkout.

You can save up to three bank accounts in your Walmart account but can connect to only one account at a time. Please allow up to five business days for the funds to be withdrawn from your account.

HSA/FSA Cards

To use your HSA/FSA card, enter it as a credit card when buying eligible items. If you save the card to your account, it will save as a benefit card.

Add a payment method

Add a payment method to your Walmart account to make checking out faster and easier. You can scan your card using the camera on your device or enter the card number manually.

  1. Open the Walmart app or go to Walmart.com.
  2. Select Account.
  3. Select the Settings gear icon at the top right. 
  4. Select Wallet.
  5. Select Add new payment method.
  6. Select the payment type.
  7. Enter your details.
  8. Select Save Card.

Edit or remove a payment method

You can only update your payment method for a pending order after the order is placed or in prepared status.

To update your payment method:

  1. Open the Walmart app or go to Walmart.com.
  2. Select Account.
  3. Select Purchase history.
  4. Select the order you want to change your payment method for.
  5. Select Edit under Payment Method.
  6. Select or add new payment method.
    • You can only update your payment method once per order

Payment methods can’t be updated once the order is on the way or delivered.

You can edit your billing address or card details like expiration dates and security codes for cards saved in your wallet. But if your card number has changed, delete the card, and add it again.

  1. Open the Walmart app or go to Walmart.com.
  2. Select Account.
  3. Select the Settings gear icon at the top right.
  4. Select Wallet.
  5. Select Edit next to the payment method to change

Paying with Walmart Cash or Walmart Balance

You can use your Walmart Cash on purchases in-store and online. For more information, visit Walmart Cash.
